Effecting Economy In The Cost Of Redesigning Your Website

Anything which has been in existence for a long time becomes obsolete. The website which you have been operating since you started your business is no 'Monalisa' of Leonardo Da Vinci, which will retain its attractiveness and appeal till eternity. Your business has become bigger and more complex, with larger number of products and an expanded customer base, which makes more demands on your website than it can cope with. Your competitors maybe continuously sniping at your heels to take away your market share and their recently designed websites may be making your old website look like dowager aunt amongst attractive girls.

While thinking of redesigning your website, you need to organize your thinking first to formulate a specification of your redesigned website, which you can pass on to your web designer. Such a specification, no matter how much refinement it may need, can become a good starting point of your interaction with the web designer.

While looking to redesign your website, you must remember that each aspect of website design, such as, attractiveness, user friendliness, interactive ability, ability to be located quickly by search engines, compares effectively with your competitors' websites and if possible is an improvement on them.

Since you have been in business for a fairly long time, which makes you knowledgeable in all aspects of business, you should be able to use your knowledge effectively in identifying what features your redesigned website must have. You should harness your knowledge to draft a comprehensive specification of your redesigned website, wherein you should be able to quantify the ability of your redesigned website in meeting these specifications.

Your discussions with your web designer should refine the draft specification and indicate quantifiable targets your redesigned website must achieve in order to be accepted. For instance, when a search is mounted using search engines (like, Google, Yahoo or Bing) whether your website gets listed in first two or three positions in the search results. You should be able to zero in on the color scheme and graphics on each page of your website. Graphics should be contemporary to be attractive enough. Multimedia animated graphics are common on websites now-a-days. You may also like to incorporate such graphics on your website.

The experience which you have acquired in business must have honed your communication ability in business negotiations. Your interaction with your web designer is an important business negotiation, which will lead to creation of a website, which will be the most visible face of your business. If it is an e-commerce website, it may well be your most important business tool or the medium for transacting your business. You should be able to communicate your ideas clearly and precisely to your web designer and elicit options from him wherever you are required to make your choice.
