Why Website Optimisation Is Important

By Mavic Bell

Internet marketing has its own set of standards and procedures. This includes the optimisation of websites for search engines. Internet users depend on search engines just like surfers ride on their surfboards. Engines direct users to the best pages related to their searches, so it is critical for businesses to set up their websites in a way where visibility on search engines is addressed.

The first thing that an online entrepreneur should know about search engines is that they have a different way of perceiving web content compared to how human brains do. Search engines are text-driven, while human brains are not. Search engines make us of software that crawls throughout web pages, searching for texts that will serve as their guide in classifying and indexing web content.

Given the fact that search engines work by relying on texts, it is easy to conclude that search engine optimisation concerns figuring out how online users use keywords and phrases in performing searches. It is also important to take note that spiders are incapable of recognizing non-textual web content, a condition that have a major impact on how websites are ranked by search engines.

Spiders are incapable of recognizing images, flash movies, Java script and password-protected sites. If a web page contains several of these non-textual elements, then its ranking will surely suffer. Plainly put, pages with such content will not exist as far as search engines are concerned.

Great web masters know how to direct search engine spiders. These professionals know how to instruct spiders which content to crawl and not to crawl. Examples of directories that should not be crawled are log in specific pages and internal search results.

Search engine companies constantly enhance their platforms to ensure that they provide the best search results to users. They develop complicated mathematical formula to advance the processes of page indexing, relevancy calculation, and the like. The aim of such efforts of course is to direct users to the exact web page they intend to land on.
