Besides, just because something is expensive does not mean that it is what you need. What matters is that the equipment that the photographer has is what is needed to complete the work. With all the equipment that will be used during the production, the photographer cannot take all of them by himself.

Tell him that this is the amount that you are willing to spend. This is your budget. Lay down your cards. Check the work of the photographer. If you visit his office, you will be able to see some of his works through the hung framed photos. Check the photographer's portfolio.
